Beautify the Bathroom!

This is a project I made a little while ago, it really has made a big difference in my bathroom, so I thought I would share! I have been working really hard on making my house look more complete, and I thought a good place to start would be the bathroom! Here is the before picture, pretty Blah, I know!

I only used a liner for my shower curtain, so I thought a real shower curtain would be a good addition. I also have a cute built in shelf unit, that I would really like to hide... I live in an old home, and storage is a premium, so that shelf is full of stuff we use all of the time. I found my fabric at Walmart, I was so excited, it was only $4.44 a yard, I bought 3 1/2 yards of fabric. So this whole project cost under $20!

I really did not know exactly what I was doing! I bought a new shower liner and used that as a guide to make shower curtain. I laid the liner on the floor, and started folding the fabrics and playing with them until I found a layout I liked.

I ended up doing the top paisley layer 16 inches, the stripe layer 52 inches, and then another 4 inch layer of paisley at the bottom. (The bottom paisley layer was a little bit of an accident, but it turned out nicely!) I had to piece two pieces of fabric together, to make each layer wide enough. I wanted the shower curtain to be just a tad bigger than the lining.

I ironed some fusible interfacing to the top of the shower curtain, and marked 3/4 inch button holes every six inches. That is the same distance as the shower liner.

I made the button holes, along the top. The shower curtain still did not look complete so I sewed a brown ribbon over the seem of the first two layers. I just loved how it turned out.

Now for the shelf, I decided to make a curtain that was the inverse of the shower curtain, to mix it up a little. Let me tell you, it is so nice to have all of our crap stuff behind a curtain. It was hard for me to get a great picture of this because it is such a small space!

Mission accomplished, I think our bathroom looks so much more complete!

Ok lets look one more time at the before and after!

This project made a huge difference in my bathroom, and for under 20 bucks! Yee-haw!

I like to link up to these fabulous parties, check them out!
