FIESTA Bridal Shower!

June and July have been full of great celebrations!  I was in charge of my sisters bridal shower, since she loves Mexican Food, I thought it would be fun to throw a Fiesta!
We were going to leave it as a bridal shower, but then we realized how many people were going to be traveling from out of town.  So we broadened it to include a bridal shower and a grooms party!  It turned out to be a GREAT party!
Every great party has to start with an invitation right?  I designed this invitation with Photoshop.  It just goes to show you should never put funny pictures on Facebook, your sister might steal it and put a mustache on your fiance!  We got a lot of compliments on these funny invites!

No Fiesta Bridal Shower/Grooms party would be complete without Sombreros.  I made the bride and groom custom sombreros, using spray paint, netting, and flowers!  We also purchased dozen others (From Oriental trading) for guests to wear!

No party would be complete without decorations!  My older sister Amber and I spent all day making tissue paper puffs for decorations.  These were fairly easy to make.

You can find a complete tutorial for the tissue paper puffs from Martha HERE!  It is amazing what $10 in tissue paper will do! We had the shower at my parents beautiful home!

We knew even though the boys were invited we still needed some girl time!  So to start off the shower the boys went in the basement to play pool and ping pong and watch the Three Amigos. While the girls stayed up stairs to play a couple games and open presents!
Our break the ice game was a game where everyone wrote a random fact about themselves, and the bride had to guess who it was.  If she didn't guess correctly that person got to ask her a question.  Alyssa is a Trivia buff, she really is kind of a nerd at heart, so we played a trivia game about Mexican Weddings. I scoured the internet for information on Mexican Weddings, and found a lot of interesting and fun traditions and facts. I simply gave the guests a piece of paper, asked the questions, and had them write down the answers! You can see the questions and answers in my google docs HERE. I think it was kind of fun, we all learned a lot, now I wish I could go to an actual Mexican Wedding, they know how to party!

What would a Fiesta be without Food?  We had a lot of fun with the food, and really did not spend a whole lot of money! After the games and presents, we came together for some yummy food!
Taco Bar
Pork Barbacoa
Beef (Ground beef with taco seasoning and onions)
Sour Cream
Homemade Salsa, compliments of my sister Amber!
Homemade Guacamole, compliments of my sister Amber!
Homemade Flour Tortillas (From a local restaurant, they were actually about the same price as store
bought tortillas, but tasted 1,000 times better!)
Homemade Corn Tortillas (Again from a local restaurant!)
Homemade Corn Chips (from local grocery store)
Fruit Salad
Dessert: Tres Leches Cake!

So really we kept things pretty simple food wise, but there was lot of it, and it was DELICIOUS! The food was made well ahead of time and kept warm in crock pots!

One of my favorite features was the tin foil pan dishes!  We bought them from Costa Vida for 25 cents each.  So for $12.50 we got 50 plates, not too bad, they looked cute, and worked great!

To drink we had bottled water, and soda, we also had water dressed up with maraschino cherries and limes!  I found the cutest Sombrero straws at Hobby Lobby, I had to have them!

For Dessert we had Tres Leches Cake, which was a huge hit! The cute pepper tooth picks I ordered from Oriental Trading.

The biggest hit of the party was the Salsa Dancing Lessons!  My cute cousin Sadey is on the Ball Room Dancing team at her high school and travels around the country dancing.  I recruited her to teach us how to shake our hips!
Everyone was a great sport, and it was so much fun!
I think Alyssa and Michael have a lot of Salsa Dancing in their future!

To cap the party off, I thought it would be fun to have a Pinata! Since I am cheap, I could not imagine paying $20 for a Pinata, so I made my own... After my house and kids were covered with flour, water, and newspaper strips, I was having seconds thoughts!
My son lovingly dubbed the pinata, the Alien Fish! It was certainly a Pinata you wanted to hit!  The kids had a lot of fun with the Pinata!
It was a great party!
For a great Couple!

Refreshing and Easy Summer Slush

In case you missed it this is the recipe I shared at Seven Alive a couple weeks ago!
I don't know what it is like where you are, but here it is HOT!!  So I thought I would share a recipe with you today to help you beat the heat! When my hubby and I first started dating, it was a tradition for us to visit his Grandma every Sunday. She was a fabulous cook, and one of my favorite summer time treats she gave us was this refreshing summer slush!  This recipe is also a big deal because it has made it into my Black Book of Recipes!

Summer Time Slush
Adapted from: Karla Bench; Moroni Cook Book

6 cups water
½ cup sugar
1 (12 oz) container orange juice concentrate
5 medium bananas
1 (46 oz) can pineapple juice
2-1/2 gallon containers or one-gallon freezer container for slush
(Old ice cream buckets work great)

Sprite or 7 up

Stir water, sugar, orange juice concentrate, and pineapple juice together until dissolved.  Mash bananas, and stir into juice mixture.  Pour into two large ½ gallon containers, or one large gallon container.  {Old ice cream buckets work the best if you have one}. Let freeze completely.

When ready to serve let slush thaw at room temperature for about ½ hour, then scoop by spoon fulls into ice-cold lemon lime soda! Relax and ENJOY the heat!

This is what it looks like pre-frozen!

 Have I convinced you yet?

This is a GREAT recipe to have on hand for those unexpected summer guests! This is a family favorite at our house, I hope it will become one at yours too!

Weekend Show Off Party 7/19/12

Welcome to the Weekend!

Ladybird Ln
I am running like a turkey with my head cut off!  So sorry I have been MIA this week, my sister is getting married SATURDAY!

Here are a couple links that caught my eye!
Winnie of the Winnish Blog has done it again, these cookie dough brownies look delicious!

Winnie's brownies would be awesome sitting in the front porch, especially if it was the beautiful front porch recently made-over by Homespun!  I think it looks great!

After all the stress and business of the wedding, I am ready for a road trip, but I first might have to talk Trish of Mom on Timeout into making me a road trip survival kit!

Blog of the Week Monkey See, Monkey Do!!

I am so excited to introduce you to this weeks blog of the week Monkey See, Monkey Do!  Jen has so many fun projects, she is super creative and has GREAT tutorials!

Hi, crafty friends! I’m Jen, from Monkey See, Monkey Do! I love to sew and do crafts. Most of my projects are made from scraps, upcycled clothing items, or just stuff I had that was begging to be improved upon. I try to be frugal in my craft and sewing endeavors. Here are a few of my favorite projects.

What influenced my blog's title? I wanted to have a blog where readers could see what I had done, whether it was a handy cleaning tip, sewing project, craft project, money saving idea or home improvement project and get the instructions needed to do the same thing.
However, the title “Monkey See, Monkey Do” now has special meaning since I have two small boys. Whatever one does, the other copies!

Thanks so much for asking me to guest post today, Carlee! I hope you’ll all come visit me at Monkey See, Monkey Do
