It is my kids Spring bread this week, so we a had a GREAT week!

  We have been to the Zoo, local fish hatchery, kite flying, and a couple picnics!  I am so happy to have my all my kids home for a week!

Barn Yard Birthday Bash!

I love to make my kids birthday cakes, the thing is, I am NOT a cake decorator, so my cakes usually end up pretty fun, but not to perfect or fancy!

I made this farm cake for my little man's second birthday.  I am a sucker for barn animals, and I think it turned out kind of fun.

I took the idea from Family Fun.  However I made my barn flat to the ground, because I was nervous it would fall.  I just made a cake in an 8 x 11 inch pan, and cut it into a barn shape.  I used graham crackers for the 'doors' and 'roof', and coconut for the 'hay'. The instructions for the baby animal cupcakes are on Family fun!

Here are some basic Cake Making Tips:

• Use Wilton Food coloring, it turns out so much better.

• To coat the bottom of a cake pan, use a paper towel, dip into shortening and cover the ENTIRE inside of the pan.  Then coat with flour.
• Never refrigerate your frosting... it will become to hard to frost.
• If you are a novice like me, do not expect for perfection go for cute and fun.  
• If you had a bad confection mishap, visit Cake Wrecks, it will make you feel better--I promise!

I think I have the best Bloggy friends ever, thanks for all of your sweet comments about my husbands Grandma last week!  I truly appreciate you all.

Funfetti Rice Krispie Treats!

What could be better than a gooey rice krispie treat?  

How about rice krispie treat with cake mix in it?

I found an intriguing recipe a while ago from the fun blog blog,  Keeping Up with the Cyperts, for Cake Batter Rice Krispe Treats, so I thought I would give it a try.  I used Funfetti cake mix, because it is one of my favorites!

Funfetti Rice Krispie Treats

5 to 6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal

3 Tbsp. Butter

2/3 Cup Funfetti Cake Mix

1 10oz Bag Mini Marshmallows

Melt butter in a large nonstick saucepan over low heat and then add marshmallows.  Once the marshmallows begin to melt add the cake mix.  Lastly add the cereal.   Put in whatever container you would like I used a 9x9" square pan.

The result DELICIOUS!  A fun twist on a favorite!  We will be making these again and again!

Crafting for a Cause March/April!

  There is nothing more comforting than a warm blanket.  For our next Crafting for a Cause project, we are teaming up with Kara of  Petals to Picots, and doing a cyber Blanket drive in conjunction with Project Linus.  You can link up your donated blanket to a combined link up party we are having April 15-30th, for some fun prizes.  Additionally Kara of Petals and Picots has a Blanket Drive album on Facebook where you can comment and add pictures for additional prizes!

Project Linus is an amazing organization that collects handmade blankets and distributes them to children who are  ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Inspired by Charles Schulz’s PEANUTS® character, Linus, Project Linus's mission is to provide comfort to these children with the help of a security blanket. Volunteers, or "blanketeers" as they are lovingly referred to, from all over the country create, collect, and distribute these handmade blankets.

Since Project Linus began in 1995, there have been over 4 million blankets delivered to children in need, and there are now close to 400 chapters nationwide. Project Linus receives thousands of letters and thank you notes every year from children and their families who are touched that a stranger would take the time to make something for them. Project Linus accepts all styles of new handmade blankets including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets. If you need help getting started, the Project Linus website offers many patterns to help plan your project. Blankets should be washable and made in child-friendly colors. Many sizes are accepted depending on the specific needs of each chapter. Contact your local chapter for more information and for the current needs in your area.

Local chapters also look for volunteers who can offer their time to collect and distribute blankets and also to organize and participate in blanket-making events throughout the year. Contact your local chapter to find out about current volunteer opportunities.

Let's have a cyber blanket drive for Linus!!

The goal of our project is to donate 50 blankets to donate.  Kara of Petals to Picots is having a blanket drive on her facebook page.  She also has some great

The drive will be held on the honor system. Just add your commitment to the comments  on my Blanket Drive album on Facebook. When you have completed your blankets, contact your local chapter for drop off/pick up information. Let's shoot for a completion date of April 30, 2012.

In addition, we will be having a combined linky party from April 15-30th, at Petals to Picot's, Ladybird Ln, and Someday Crafts.   We will be having some fun prizes so be sure to join in the fun!

Weekend Show Off 3-15-12

Welcome to the Weekend!

Sorry I am late, I spent the day saying Goodbye to a wonderful Lady.  My husbands Grandmother, and our next door neighbor passed away.

She truly is a special lady, and we had wonderful day celebrating her life, and visiting family. I know that she is now with her sweetheart, and her son she lost long ago.  We will meet again someday, of that I have no doubt.

Now onto the Party, I am so excited to introduce Kara of Petals and Picots.  Kara makes me want to learn how to Crochet, she has some amazing projects!

I am so excited to be featured as the blog of the week for Ladybird Ln!! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Kara. I am a wife, mommy, and a confessed yarnie. In my free time (ha-ha) I work as a freelance writer and editor to support my yarn addiction. My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 9 years old, and I have been crocheting ever since. From trying new patterns to designing my own, I always have a crochet project stashed in my bag.

I wanted to combine my love of writing with my love of crochet, so I started a blog is called Petals to Picots. My vision for my blog is to help share my love of crochet by providing crochet tutorials and resources, free patterns, reviews of related books and products, unique and classic crocheted creations, and a forum for crafters to share their projects, ideas, and techniques.

Weekend Show Offs!

Well we have had a busy weekend around these parts.  My husbands sweet grandmother passed away on Friday, it was not a big surprise more a blessing really, she had suffered for so long.  I am in charge of making a DVD slideshow of her life, and it has occurred to me how much things change in a lifetime.  I love the sweet picture of her in the school house with the girls wearing their fanciest dress, with the boys in overalls.  It seems almost like a different world.  Sometimes I wonder with all our progression in technology, if we are going forward or backward?  I hope that the generations after me, will still enjoy simple pleasures of playing bear feet outside, watching a seed grow, feeding animals, simply finding joy beyond technology and media.

I do not like to dwell on numbers or anything, but have you noticed how painfully close I am to 1,000 followers?  That is so exciting!

I am so excited to introduce the blog of the week this week Noreen of Crafty Journal!

Noreen has only had this blog for a short time, but already has so many ideas for things to make she can't get them on her blog fast enough! Her grandmother started her doing crafts by teaching her to crochet. And now she loves sharing her craft ideas and enjoys creating crafts that kids can make.
