It has been such a fun couple weeks at my house... We have been looking forward to getting the mail!

Thank you so much for all of you that have donated pillowcases, it has been so fun to receive beautiful pillowcases from around the country! From California to New Hampshire, and everywhere inbetween! It has been a great experience for my family, my kids are so excited for these pillowcases to go to kids in the hospital!

They are all so sweet, and have so much personality!

We have received 34 from the mail so far! I received five more today that are not pictured.. More pictures to come I promise! Malynn's extended family has made well over 30, I have made a few, and we expect some more to come.. SO I think we will make our goal of OVER 100!

Showing You Off--Party Features!

I have had a BUSY FUN weekend! I did not get to mingle as much as I like to at the Weekend Show Off Party, but I do appreciate you all for coming! I thought I would Show Off some projects that caught my eye!

America Rocks--Printable

A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop-a-lop-bam-boom!

Is there anything more American than Rock n' Roll, I don't think so!  I love the 4th of July, and I love Rock n' Roll, so this is the perfect 4th of July decoration for me.  I tried to include mainly iconic patriotic rock tunes to create this 4th of July subway art.  Ultimately they are songs you might hear at a 4th of July BBQ!

This is the original one I made, when I had it printed (at Walmart) it was a little darker then I wanted it to be.

 So I made the one below a little lighter!

I wish I could figure out if it was my computer or the printer, printing things out dark.  Does anyone know how to set your computer colors, so they match real world colors... If so please share!

Weekend Show Off Party: SIX

Welcome to the WEEKEND!  I am so excited to see what you have been up to this week!  As of now I have 12 pillowcases, from friends around the country!  I have 8 I am working on now, and I know we have many more on the way YEAH!!  If you have not already go check out all of the amazing pillows that have been linked up to the contest!

I just love having having a BLOG OF THE WEEK, each week because I get to meet some amazing bloggers, and explore some fun blogs!  This blog is no exception, I am excited to introduce a reletively new blogger Sarah of DIY or DON'T!

I recently received an email from Carlee informing me I had randomly been selected from her Link Up party to be the next "Blog of the Week" and she was wondering if I wanted to participate. I immediately responded "Absolutely!" What a special opportunity! The only "requirement" she had to be featured is to write a little something about my blog. Well, that's easy! Sit back and relax folks, because this girl can talk! hehe.

Though the blog is only about 2 months old the concept of "DIY or Don't!" was born in the cold early-winter months of 2010 while I was walking our then puppy Cooper. (He's no longer a puppy but a full-size cuddle bug.)

Hubby and I were recently engaged and, having always been a DIY kind of girl, knew I had about 1,000 craft projects ahead of me for the Wedding. I started realizing that there were some things that I was just going to have to buy, but I didn't really want to lose the hand-made theme that we were after. Enter Etsy. What a wonderful place! It's like a beautiful eternal craft fair full of artisans and crafters - like me - but for hire! So, I spent a good portion of my planning days bouncing between Etsy and conversing with sellers to custom make things for me, and the DIY sites with tutorials and inspirational ideas. Then suddenly it hit me. There should be a place where those who make (martha stewart style), those who inspire (DIY blogs and craftgawker) and those who buy (etsy style) unite. It was then that "DIY or Don't!" was born. The concept is actually much grander that what you see here, and I have some big things in store for you guys in the future, but for now I have a blog and try everyday to find balance between providing tutorials, inspiration and access to quality sellers.

And since we're it's what started it all (and I've secretly been wanting to find a way to share some of the pics with you anyways) here's a glimpse of our handmade/Etsy style wedding!

4th of July Flag CAKE!

I love EVERYTHING about the 4th of July! Christmas is great, Thanksgiving is yummy, but the 4th of July takes the cake! I love the small town patriotic celebrations, the watermelon, the backyard barbecues, and just being with the family! Last year I made a fun Flag cake, I found the recipe over at 17 and Baking (A great blog if you are not familiar with it). She gives a great tutorial, this was the first layer cake I EVER made!

The outside is very simple... No those are not patriotic spiders they are fireworks! I made a simple template out of cardstock and sprinkled bright colors sprinkles! The cake looks great if you can get past the spider part!

But cut the cake open.... and you have OLD GLORY! So cool! This cake was a huge hit! The kids loved it, and it was pretty delicious! If you want to make one of your own go HERE for the complete tutorial!

Simple Summer Journal, and a REMINDER!!

 Just a reminder tomorrow is the last day to submit your pillow to the PILLOW FIGHT... You can submit your pillows HERE! We have so many FABULOUS prizes, from incredible sponsors, and it is supporting a great cause! Go enter your pillow creations!

This summer I am teaching summer school at the local high school to help keep my teaching certificate up.  It has been a change going to work when I have had a break for a couple of years!  I teach special education students with varying abilities, and I love it.  It is a great reminder to me of how much I love these kids, we have a lot of fun, and their is never a dull moment! To start the students off in the morning, they write in a summer journal!



I have found questions that are hopefully fun and require some critical thinking skills.  I typed the questions in a Google document, you can see them above or find them HERE!

 I printed the questions off on bright colors, cut them into strips, and placed them in a fancy jar that I had on hand.

 Each morning a student chooses a subject from the journal jar and I have them write about it.  Some students can not write so we have them talk about the subject or draw pictures.  It has been a lot of fun, and helps the students to keep thinking and writing during the summer.  This would be a great thing to do with kids at home!
