Autumn Windows

This is my entry for the Fall Colors entry for SYTYC, I hope that you can appreciate how very hard it is to take pictures of glass!  This really was a challenge, but the project is breathtaking, even better than what I was able to capture with the camera!

Autumn is my favorite time of year!  For this challenge I decided to showcase natures best show, fall leaves!  I created beautiful fall art using old windows and fall leaves.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but this a HUGE frame! I love the specimen art feel to it, each pane has a unique fall leaf display.  I made this window with my mom. This window fits beautifully on her large wall.

This window is so striking. The leaves start at a bright yellow, and gradually turn to a brilliant red!

I wanted to capture the adventurous side of Fall with this window.  My kids and I had so much fun playing in the fall leaves at a local park. I displayed pictures we took that afternoon with some fall leaves we collected!

These windows are so beautiful, and whimsical, and they are surprisingly easy to make!  The only 'unusual' thing you might need is two panes for your window.  You can buy glass cut to the size you need at a window/glass store, and it is affordable. For my extra piece of glass 13x28" was 9 dollars.

Items Needed:

Old Window

two glass panes for window

pressed leaves (just pick leaves and press them in large book)

photos (optional)

Glue dots

window frame push points, to keep glass in place

 

Paint/glaze your frame to your desire.  I painted mine ivory and distressed with brown... this was my frame before.

 

Lay the back piece of glass down.  Adhere  leaves/pictures in desired locations.  I put the frame over the window, so I could tell where the window pane separators were. 

Sandwich the leaves/pictures between two pieces of glass.  This is what the back looks like.  Secure glass to frame using the push points.

Isn't this a great way to display fall photos, and preserve a memory?  I just love it!

The leaves create a simple, beautiful, decoration on their own!

In case you are wondering the colors of the leaves will stay vibrant for years!
